#STOPIT, All About Kakcho, Stop It!

We, humans, have created standards of what a body should look like. And anybody refusing to fit into those standards gets body shamed. What we all forget is that we all are, after all, humans. And that 36 24 and 36 are just numbers. And that the idea of a perfect body is just an illusion. After all, beauty comes in all shapes and sizes.

So when American singer, songwriter and actress Demi Lovato posted a picture of herself on Instagram where she was lounging on a recliner, wearing a pink and white floral romper with ‘Learn to LOVE YOUR CURVES. I actually used to hate them. But then a special someone helped me learn how to love them. And he sure loves them. #squats #COOLFORTHESUMMER’ as the caption to the picture, Demi wasn’t spared too. She was met with comments that defined her as fat and some even accused her of being a hypocrite. Demi Lovato is one of the many celebrities who has been fat shamed.  She has been a victim of such incidences in the past.

“If someone calls me fat, even in a vulnerable moment, I laugh to myself and think, I am doing everything I can, so there’s nothing I can do about it”, says the 25-year old Sorry Not Sorry singer. “I don’t have a six-pack. Maybe I don’t even want a six-pack. It doesn’t sound very appealing”, she adds.

What is inspirational though is that, even though Demi once gave in to the standards of the society and believed that having curves was wrong but now, she’s fallen in love with her body. And she has overcome her hatred for her body and her curves. Thus, Demi Lovato serves as an inspiration to many women out there who are still struggling with their bodies and still learning to accept them for how they are.

We need to stop this at this very moment, and we can do that by making people who shame others realise how this affects life of those who go through this and how dangerous it is for their minds and bodies both to be body shamed just because they don’t land into the definition of beauty and perfection set by the society.
