Uttar Pradesh was initially named the United Province. Sounds English right? And why not after all. It was the Britishers ruling at that time who named it. But later it was changed to Uttar Pradesh the name we know it for today.
Uttar Pradesh has a clothing style which can be called somewhat national. There is a lot of emphasis on the Salwar Kurta also known as suits. Even though there is also a population which wears Saree but the majority adorns Salwar and Kurta with the iconic dupatta, which most of the time is worn over their head as a sign of respect.
Uttar Pradesh is quite a large state and has distinguishing features from all corners of it. Be it the “chikan” embroidery from Lucknow or the “Zari” work of Aligarh, Ferozabad for its glass bangles, or Varanasi for the famous and evergreen “Banaresi” Saree. The list is endless.
The people of this state have an edge over everyone and like dressing. They love dressing royally and hate their attire being light or empty. They opt for loud dark and vibrant colors. They accessorize to the fullest.
Even though a suit is generally worn by everyone in the country. All of us should definitely have one with a “chikan” embroidery. Purchase a long Shirt with the Chikan work on the sleeves and the collar to get a sheer elegant style which is going to be perfect for your office and a day outing. Banaresi Saree is a must have and can never go out of fashion. So, that’s a definite buy for every desi girl out there.
This year around Long Kurta’s with floral patterns are trending. So is the color blue? Not to forget the Dupatta.
When it comes to men, they usually prefer wearing Kurta pyjama.Men also often sport a head-gear like a topi or a pagri. Sherwani is a more formal male dress and is frequently worn along with chooridar on festive occasions. European-style trousers and shirts are also common among the men.
One of the most important things to remember while dressing up with Uttar Pradesh inspiration is that cosmetics and jewelry are extremely essential. Because it’s also the land of Surma that is kohl and UPites swear by it. From a girl of 12 to a woman of 80 they all wear their Kohl with pride. You would never catch a female in this region without glass bangles.
Which you should wear more too. Just a set of color-coordinated bangles works great as a bracelet or steel bangles are always a safe bet if one doesn’t feel like getting experimental. All in all, U.P makes all Fashion diva’s extremely happy with all that they have to offer.
So this was all about fashion in Uttar Pradesh. Read it like it! Share it! and implement it!
